The Orcish Horde was created as living weapons of the legion, while the grunt all got standard issue axes a few specialists got something better.

Gul’dan was well aware of Azeroth’s defences as he plotted the invasion. The human kingdoms he was going to invade have strict hierarchies and chains of command, one good assassin would break the defences down more than an army. Seeing his fellow orcs as little more than fleshy tools he set about making the perfect agent.

He found the pureblood Orcs just weren’t good enough so he set about making a half breed. The two options open to him were Ogres and Draenei. An Orc/Ogre hybrid makes a Mok’Nathal, superb hunters but not really assassin material; but Orc and Draenei makes a much more agile creature, often making great blademasters. This would be a much better bet.

The details of how he created the half breeds to experiment on are best left to the imagination. Ultimately he succeeded and Garona was born. Gul’dan magically aged and tortured her into obedience and placed extra controls on her mind to be sure. She was then trained as a master assassin. All he needed now was a pair of daggers to match.

The blades were infused with vampiric spirits, draining the blood from any wound they cause. They were also infused with a spell that can hold poisons within the blade and transfer them to the victim without trace, the perfect weapons for a kingslayer.

As a half breed, the rest of the Orcs thought her inferior, she was an outcast to all clans, even when she was inducted to the Stormreaver. When the time came to invade Azeroth, she was among the first groups through. Her group encountered Medivh, who had opened the portal on our side. The mage knew his allies and befriended the strange orc.

The kinship to Medivh meant she could establish a position as emissary and get in close to the alliance leadership. By carefully manoeuvring she was able to get close and kill the king of stormwind, Llane Wrynn. Garona had come to enjoy the king’s company and didn’t really want to go through with it, but the legion’s controls were too strong.

In the aftermath of this she went into hiding. She believed the dagger were the source of Gul’dan’s mind control and had an ally on Azeroth take them into hiding. Since the fall of the old horde the demons control of the orcs has been destroyed. The now free Garona chose to join a neutral faction of assassins, Ravenholdt. The daggers themselves are back in Garona’s hands for now.

Oddly enough when we came to visit the alternative Draenor, there was indeed a Garona however she didn’t have the daggers. Perhaps the new Gul’dan has different methods to the old one.

The kingslayers have a mind of their own, and will take as much cunning as power for a master assassin to control.
