The Tirisgarde is one of the oldest of the class orders, founded not long after the building of Dalaran in response to increasing demon invasions. It was disbanded following the fall of the last Guardian, Medivh.
As the current legion invasion began, a demon long imprisoned by the undead mage Meryl Felstorm broke free. Knowing the damage Kathra’natir could do, Meryl sought out a heroic mage for help. He knew where the demon would go first, he would want the Forge of the Guardian, the relic that was used to empower the guardians. It was stored in the violet hold, of all places.
The mage drew on the power of the forge to defeat the demon, banishing him back to the nether. As the power in the forge left the mage it manifested as Alodi, the first guardian. Meryl reveals his plan is to reform the tirisgarde, this time without a guardian. Between them they teleported themselves and the forge to a secret location in Dalaran, the Hall of the Guardian. From here the hero got hold of a powerful weapon while Meryl set about repairing the hall and calling mages back to the cause.

Among the new tirisgarde, two members of the high council of Dalaran joined in. The blue dragon Kalec, and archmage Modera agreed to join as champions. As the broken isles campaign continued, Meryl suddenly fell ill. Ravandwyr, apprentice to archmage Vargoth, arrived at the hall warning of strange power coming from a stronghold of the empyrean society. Heading down to the camp they met Esara Verrinde, an agent form Dalaran investigating the society. They found the society was being run by archmage Vargoth.
Vargoth is highly respected in Dalaran, and the council were reluctant to believe it, but had to admit he was acting oddly. They agreed to let the hero investigate; they searched his quarters and discovered he was searching for an artefact call the nightborne soulstone. After following some leads on it, they traced it to the Arcway beneath Suramar city.

In the meantime archmage Khadgar had arrived to help Meryl, and was searching for a book on magical maladies. He knew of an archmage who had been living in the hall while it was derelict and would likely know where to look. Ari knew certain magical tomes took on personalities, and needed to be lured out. Using some stolen nightwell magic and moth wings to soothe it, Ari lured the tome out. As a thank you the hero got hold of three gifts, Ari liked her threes. Ari then created a powerful arcane golem to act as a champion.
The hero entered the arcway vault in pursuit of Vargoth, as they pressed on through the magic traps they encountered the infamous Millhouse Manastorm. Millhouse was after the soulstone for his own ends, he decided to team up with the hero and they set off after him. They caught up with him, but his fel infused arcane stopped them both and he escaped to the Occulus high above the nexus in northrend.
The hero chased him into the occulus and found he was being controlled by fel magi. The hero saved Vargoth from the fel magi and they set about finishing the demon behind it all, Kathran’atir. He was down in the nexus using the nightborne soulstone to curse Meryl. The combined forces of the tirisgarde held the demon back while the hero trapped him inside the soulstone. The heroic mage was then named archmage of the tirisgarde after saving the day.

After the events of the nighthold some of the nightborne were beginning to explore the world against, a mage called Ryanna discovered Aethas Sunreaver captured by harpies and rescued him. He had been stalking sunreavers who had joined the legion. The two sought out the help of the tirisgarde to stop the new threat, and he helped repair the main weapon of Dalaran city to show his loyalty.
The tirisgarde learnt of an experimental technique for making an arcane flying disc based on all three specialisations. After gathering the parts to form it, they began the ritual to stabilise it, and the disc was ready to use.
The magi know knowledge is power and they prize it above all else, now if they could just get their books to behave they would be unstoppable.
