Eyes on Il'gynoth

Following on from our previous success in The Emerald Nightmare, our heroes returned to finish the job with our sights set on Il'gynoth,
Lodged in the hollows of a now-decrepit world tree, Il'gynoth is a manifestation of the horrors that lie at the heart of the Nightmare. It is a mass of corruption - a thing that should not be. It's tendrils seep through the ground, emerging in countless horrifying eyestalks and limbs.

As we approached the World Tree we could see the Eye of Il'gynoth watching over the area. Guarded only by two heavy tentacles, our enemy appeared as though it would pose very little resistance to an attack. Confidently, we readied ourselves and charged.

Jase and Rob immediately drew the attention of the Tentacles allowing the army behind them to immediately advance on to the eye. Victory would be swift, we thought, however our attacks proved useless; The Eye was impervious to attack...
Before there was any time to panic, Jase had issued new orders and we turned our fury on the tentacles. Once defeated, the tentacles exploded, spewing ichor as they fell which, animated by a demonic corruption, were able to continue an attack upon our confused band of warriors.
More Tentacles burst out from the ground and with every one we killed, yet more Corrupted Ichor joined the attacks. Il'gynoth was a far more intrepid foe than we had initially thought and we were being overwhelmed. The decision was made to concentrate our attacks on the ever increasing Ichor, in an attempt to bring their numbers down and even the playing field a little more.
As the Kung Foo Monkey Badgers overcame a small group of Ichor a sudden, and significant, discovery was made. The Corrupted essence that spewed from the dying ichor caused harm to our ultimate enemy, The Eye. For a third time, new orders were issued; Kill the Tentacles, produce as much Corrupted Ichor as we could and use it to defeat Il'gynoth's eye as quickly as we could.

Now armed with a solid tactic, the tide of battle turned in our favour. Il'gynoth was not prepared to go down without a fight though and began to attack our troops with laser-like gaze, changing from target to target in mere seconds and bringing a new urgency to this encounter, as these relentless strikes could not be stopped, time would now be our biggest enemy.
Alex, Dave and Bushski held fast, frantically healing the huge waves of damage being dealt out and cleansing us as our own corruption grew heavy. Il'gynoth, perhaps realising his demise approached, called upon a new enemy for us to deal with, a Nightmare Horror.
Standing near 10 feet tall, with tree like limbs, long spiked fingers and a solitary, red eye, the Nightmare Horror began to corrupt the very ground we fought on. If Il'gynoth could not defeat us with force, he would make the battlefield uninhabitable thus saving him from attack. The Tanks would have to take it in turns to hold the attention of this new threat, as staying with it for too long would prove fatal.
Whilst the tanks switched regularly, so the remaining army would attack it with full force.

As the Nightmare Horror fell, it spewed out the last remaining Ichor we needed to deal the death blows to the eye.
The eye deflated and dissolved into a gooey mess, finally revealing the true target of this endeavour, Il'gynoth himself, the Heart of Corruption. Now defenceless, Il'gynoth knew his fate. The Kung Foo Monkey Badgers flew at him with all their might; hacking, slashing, burning, shocking, slicing and dicing, unleashing all their fury upon their enemy. With what little remained in him, Il'gynoth was able to curse some of his attackers and attempted to regenerate a new eye, sealing our exit.
Before we were able to destroy the Heart of Corruption, we retreated from within the world tree to avoid being locked in it forever, and prepared for another long battle. Once again we fought hard against tentacles, ichor, corruption and creations of nightmare, this time with great efficiency and were soon back to face the Heart.
Il'gynoth, unable to withstand a second onslaught of the mighty Kung Foo Monkey Badgers, soon fell.

Undoubtedly the hardest encounter we have attempted in this raid and I'm extremely proud of this kill. Sadly, we weren't able to record the official first downing, so enjoy our re-enactment of it!
