One of the stranger factions we came across in the broken isles was the court of prince Farondis. We haven’t faced many undead since the scourge days, so what happened here?
The ancient elven empire was ruled by a direct monarch, with various regions controlled as principalities by the local prince regent. These aristocrats had to regularly attend court with the king or queen to carrying out their will. This tradition carried on until the time of queen Azshara.
For a time the entire royal court was as spellbound by Azshara’s leadership as everyone else, until the queen gained a new high councillor: Xavius. Xavius was an extremely powerful mage and had risen through the ranks for his successes against the empire’s enemies. His crowning glory in the court was to be a devastating spell that destroyed the entire troll empire. This amount of magic attracted the attention of the legion.

Sargeras seized control of Xavius’ spell and corrupted him on the spot, he later persuaded Azshara to touch the spell and fall under the legion’s control as well. The two of them then set about establishing a portal to bring the legion in. Many of the royal court were too afraid to suggest this may have been a bad plan, and agreed to accept the legion’s ‘gift’ as well. Prince Farondis of Azsuna did not.
Azsuna was one of the more remote regions of the empire, and he could see very well what the demons were doing to his people. He refused the gift of fel and returned to Azsuna to plot against the queen. However queen Azshara was not the only one with traitors in her ranks. Vandros, a young nobleman, saw this as his chance to elevate his station, and reported Farondis’ treachery to the queen in person.
The prince hatched a desperate plan, his people held an ancient titan relic: the Tidestone of Golganneth, its power was enough to disrupt the well of eternity. The well’s power was fuelling the legion’s portal; this was his best shot to stop the queen. The queen struck first, unleashing a devastating attack on Farondis’ people and the tidestone itself. Both the stone and the people were destroyed, with the latter cursed into undeath. No other nobles dared to defy her.

As for Vandros, he was honoured by the queen and moved to Suramar city. He became one of Elisande’s personal advisors, and was a keen supporter of siding with the legion when they came to Suramar. He can now be found defending the city’s leylines in the Arcway.
As for Farondis, since our work in Azsuna his people have finally forgiven him and the tidestone is restored. Whether his people can ever find freedom from the curse is another matter.
